Getting feedback from your clients is the most powerful tool you can use to improve your service and gain a superior reputation in your community.  

There is a big difference between asking 'how was your tan' and asking for detailed information about specific aspects of the spray tan. 

For example:

  • "Were your hands an appropriate color and were they blended well in-between the fingers and knuckles and around the wrist?"
  • "Did you notice any areas that were lighter or darker or appeared to have been missed?"
  • "Was the color and shade of the tan what you expected?"
  • "Did you notice a tanning spray smell or any trouble rinsing the bronzer off the first shower?"

These kinds of questions give your client permission to give you honest and descriptive feedback that will improve your skills.  It also shows your client that you are interested in improving and providing the very best service you can.  Trust and honesty will bring you more business than you can handle and it will allow you the opportunity to demand premium pricing.  

Once a client knows that they can communicate with you honestly and you won't be hurt or offended (maybe you will be, but you won't show it) than they will continue to stay loyal to you even if there is an incident in the future.  They will continue to sing you praise to their social network and will come to you first before leaving a nasty review.  

My advice is to embrace feedback and criticism and be wary of silence.

I use a wonderful software called Jot Forms as a way to request feedback from my customers.  It comes directly from my business email so it doesn't look like it is sent by a third party and therefore sent directly to the trash or spam folder.  I can add a note in the email subject and text to personalize the request.  It is a link with 5 - 10 questions depending on the experience of the technician and what information I am requesting.  

The basic version of Jot Forms is free and it saves their responses and their information in the software so you can refer back to it.  You can change the questions anytime as you progress in your service.  It keeps the feedback you receive organized and easy to access and consistent.  When I email a client it can get lost or I have trouble finding it again in the future.  It is a wonderful tool, and it will set you apart from others.
